Ken Doorson is a Caribbean artist born in Suriname. After spending a couple of years in Suriname and the Dutch Antilles he moved to the Netherlands. From 2000 - 2004 he studied Autonom Art at the Art Academy in Amsterdam and Utrecht (The Netherlands). He is well known for his big colourful portraits in a historical context.
Ken has exhibited in The Netherlands, Belgium, French-Guyana (Biennale du Marronage) and Suriname. In 2012 he had his first solo exhibition in Ford Zeelandia Suriname with the title
'Mothership - Search for identity'.
Ken participated in several group exhibitions in Rotterdam (Paramaribo perspectives) and at the
Nola Hatterman Art Gallery in Amsterdam and Bruxelles. In Suriname he collaborated with the Tembe art studio and developed a sustainable tourism project for Moengo and Marowijne artpark, based on art, history and culture. Ken Doorson's work has been on the cover of the publications '50 Surinaamse kunstschatten' (2016) written by art curator and art critic Bart Krieger, Africanah Orgh [Art Biennale Moengo] by art Critic
